I have a 32 foot Carver with two 5.8 liter Pleasure craft (Ford) engines. The distributors are magnetic pick-up (electronic) with standard coils. I purchased the meters and filters thinking that more is better but found out that is wasn't. I installed the "filters" and the meters and got poor readings, with the R.P.M's fluctuating wildly. Before giving up I cut out the filters, started the engines and a wonderful thing happened, 823 showed up on the tacks, boy was I excited.....the tachs worked like a charm where I could set the idle Revs to my specific specifications, which is important in boating as it relates to "forward speed).
I was so pleased I took a cruise just to watch the performance of the engines/Tachs.
As the boat has a fly bridge it was somewhat of an effort to pull lines from the engine room but I wanted to make sure I had a clear signal from the beginning.
In summary, high quality meters, with well thought out design...including such things as a "sun shield" for the meters eliminating sun wash out of the display. I had to remind myself to keep with the basics...a clean hook up and basic installation before jumping to Filters and such. These meters are worth every penny although I almost gave up due to my mistake "more is better" when it wasn't.
