A Boost Gauge is one of the most important monitoring devices for any turbocharged or supercharged vehicle. Whether you're driving a diesel truck, performance car, or custom-built project vehicle, a boost gauge provides real-time insight into how much pressure your forced induction system is producing.
So, how does a boost gauge work?
A boost gauge measures the pressure inside your engine's intake manifold. As a turbocharger or supercharger forces additional air into the engine, the pressure increases above atmospheric levels. This pressure is commonly measured in pounds per square inch (PSI). The gauge displays exactly how much boost is being generated, allowing drivers to monitor engine performance and identify potential issues before they become serious problems.
Most modern electronic boost gauges use a pressure sensor connected to the intake manifold. The sensor reads the manifold pressure and sends that information to the gauge, where it's displayed in real time. Many boost gauges also measure vacuum pressure, allowing drivers to monitor engine conditions during idle and cruising.
